Waterproof a tiled area
Bathrooms, showers and wet rooms
In bathrooms, showers and wet rooms tiles are subject to constant water exposure
- it is very difficult to ensure a complete seal at the grout joints, at walls and floors junctions and around water pipes,
- despite air movement these rooms may remain wet and dirty with fungus possibly growing on grouts.

Balconies and terraces.
Balconies and terraces are subject to bad weather conditions and to thermal shocks (from high temperatures in the summer to freeze conditions in the winter). As a tiled floor is not waterproofed, water can seep into joints. Frost and heat can then amplify the damaging effects of water and lead to adhesion failures of tiles and cracks.
Swimming pools
In a swimming pool (private or public) conditions are very aggressive :
- Permanent immersion of the tiles with chlorine water
- Pressure of water inside the swimming pool and also from outside when it is empty

Reduce impact noise transmission through a tiled floor
Ceramic tiles are rigid, very resistant and the ideal covering for floors but they transmit impact noise (shocks, foot sounds) through intermediate floors and vertical partitions.
Noise insulation is required by regulation in quality new buildings. When changing the covering, in renovation (from a carpet to a tiled floor for example) you may decrease the acoustic performance of the floor.
