Weber opens new production unit in Telford (UK)

Weber opens a state-of-the art production and warehouse facility in Telford, Shropshire – one of the fastest growing manufacturing areas in the West Midlands. The eight-acre site will initially accommodate a 5,500m2 factory designed to output 100,000 tonnes of facade renders and tile adhesives annually.

This is in addition to Weber’s existing manufacturing sites in Flitwick, Bedfordshire and Ballyclare, Northern Ireland which will remain fully operational.  Floooring products by newly acquired Maxit will also be manufactured in this location.

The design follows an architectural and technical template already successfully employed by Weber in several other European countries and will include the iconic 33m high round production tower which will be an easily identifiable feature on the local landscape.

“The Telford plant marks a new milestone in the development of the Weber story in the UK and Ireland and indicates Saint-Gobain’s commitment to the development of the mortar business in the British Isles. We recognise that we need to continue to earn our customers’ goodwill and alongside this new plant we have also upgraded substantially our R&D lab at Flitwick,” says Eamon McDonnell, Managing Director, Weber.  “I hope these investments demonstrate Weber’s commitment to providing our customers with the best products, the best service and the best value in the mortars market.  This will help to secure the future through manufacturing to the highest quality standards and bringing new product benefits through constant research and development.”

The new factory is designed to minimize energy use and meets the most stringent emissions criteria.  Extensive site restoration and landscaping has been carried out.  This new facility will be BREEAM certified, being the world’s most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings, and contribute to the sustainability of modern structures.  The plant was built in record time, just under nine months, and has benefited from Weber’s innovative Exterior Wall Insulation system.
